Tim Kliphuis Triple Concerto for Violin, Cello, Piano and Symphony Orchestra - PHOENIX REBORN
On 22 September, Peter joined forces with composer and gypsy jazz violinist Tim Kliphuis and the wonderful South African pianist Charl du Plessis. Together with the Cape Town Philharmonic under the baton of Rik Ghesquière, they gave the Southern Hemisphere premiere of Tim’s Triple Concerto, “Phoenix Rising”. The rapturous applause and beautiful encore, “A nightingale Sang in Berkley Square” say it all!
CPO Celli Concert
At 15:00 on 4 December at Christ Church Constantia, Peter will launch the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra Cello Ensemble with his colleagues from the orchestra. Works include Vivaldi’s sparkling concerto for two cellos, a Carmen Fantasy and the Beatles’ Yesterday à la the 12 cellos of the Berlin Phil.
Peter Martens, together with Frank Stadler (violin) and Bryan Wallick (piano), won the Best Achievement in Classical Music Award in the KYKNet Fiëstas, 2021. Their groundbreaking filming of the Beethoven Triple Concerto was recorded on three continents - Africa, North America, and Europe.
